125 years of football at Wanstead Flats

Anonymous 04 June 2015

As the Foundation was responsible for laying the first pitches on Wanstead Flats in 1890 we were invited, as special guests, to a celebration of 125 years of football at the ground.

2015 marks a special occasion for both organisations and we were delighted to be part of this important day and talk about our shard history. A range of local school teams were invited to take part in a tournament and Ledley King, who grew up playing on Wanstead Flats, was on hand to present the trophies. Following the presentation Alex Welsh (above with Alderman Gordon Haines, Ledley King and George Abrahams from the City of London) gave a short speech about our relationship with the City of London and the importance of providing places to play sport forever.
