Two young Spurs fans and their dad had a day to remember at Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre when they both trained with the youth team who were preparing for their FA Youth Cup clash with Norwich City.
Luca and Alfie were met on arrival at the training ground by LPFF CEO Alex Welsh who took them on a short tour of the state of the art facilities before meeting Head of Coaching & Player Development John McDermott.
Luca said: “I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Opportunities like this one are something that all Spurs fans dream about having, and in that sense I was extremely excited to see what the day had in store.”
“On arrival, it was obvious that the atmosphere was very friendly, despite everyone's focused mind-set on working hard. I was overcome by how modern and impressive the setup was, with the notoriously futuristic 'dome' surrounded by the perfectly groomed training pitches.”
Dressed in their Spurs kit the boys attended a team meeting before taking to the pristine training pitch. The boys warmed up with the squad before rehearsing set pieces. Towards the end of the session the brothers joined in some very competitive games of head tennis.
Alfie commented: “I really enjoyed the head tennis activity, it was fun but at the same time had an element of competition and it was great to bond with the lads in an extremely enjoyable environment.”
“The memory that will stick with me was the set piece practices where all the lads were very inclusive and even encouraged me to take free kicks and corners before a big FA Youth Cup game. The togetherness of the boys and the fun they had not just on the pitch but in the changing room was also something I will remember.”
After training the boys and their dad John had lunch and reflected on a memorable morning. They said “It was great to meet the scholars from a footballing point of view to witness their many skills in all aspects of the game. However at the same time they were all very friendly and inclusive of both of us. They also knew how to have a laugh which is very important and it was clear that they love what they do.”
The boys’ father thanked Alex for packing so much in to the morning and making it so memorable for the boys.
This unique training experience was one of a number of special auction items at the LPFF’s Gala Dinner at The Savoy in November 2016. The Foundation wishes to place on record its sincere thanks to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and to John McDermott in particular for their generosity in providing such a great auction item.
