We are looking for a Green Hearts Activator (part-time)

Anonymous 16 August 2017

London Playing Fields Foundation is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual to play a key role in providing opportunities for the local community in Walthamstow to become more physically active.

Green Hearts Project

The purpose of the Green Hearts project is to encourage more local people to use Douglas Eyre Sports Centre to become more physically active on a regular basis.

The project provides a mile-long path around the perimeter of the field marked off by clearly visible poles at quarter mile intervals. Those using the path have a choice of walking, jogging or running the course for whatever distance they choose and at any time during daylight hours that suits them. As the course is marked out, individuals will be able to set their own targets in terms of the frequency and intensity of their exercise.

Activator role

In order to stimulate interest in the project a part-time Green Hearts Activator is required to support new participants in increasing their activity levels. The Activator’s role will be to build participants’ confidence and self-esteem at group sessions normally delivered once a week. The intention is to empower participants and help them to feel confident enough to exercise on their own rather than at group sessions.

Functions of the role

  • To be responsible for the delivery of the weekly activity session
  • To oversee the safety and welfare of the project participants
  • To assist LPFF Projects Manager in project monitoring and evaluation
  • To signpost participants to other local physical activity opportunities
  • To assist the LPFF Projects Manager to promote the project locally
  • To liaise with LPFF Projects Manager to organise healthy lifestyle workshops
  • To report to the Steering Group

Required skills and experience

  • To have a minimum of one year’s experience within a teaching or sports development environment
  • To have appropriate first aid qualification
  • To have excellent communication and people skills
  • To be able to engender positive relationships with people and to understand individual needs
  • To demonstrate a commitment to the value of adopting healthy lifestyles
  • To understand the key components of adopting a healthy lifestyle
  • To have an awareness of physical activity and sporting opportunities in the London Borough of Waltham Forest

Hours of Work

3 hours per week (Weekday and time TBC).

This post is externally funded by St James Street Big Local and is a fixed term contract until June 2018

Fees

£25 per hour.

This post is not a permanent salaried position and would be suitable for someone who is self-employed and willing to accept a short-term Contract for Service.

There is an option of the role being extended to include up to an additional 60 hours of monitoring and evaluation interviews which capture the impact that the project has had on Green Hearts participants.
