Our Projects

Green Hearts

Green Hearts is an exciting new project we are piloting in Walthamstow to improve the lives of the local community by providing access to Douglas Eyre Sports Centre for informal walking, jogging and running. We want to provide local people with the opportunity to exercise on their own terms in a safe and quiet green space in order to improve their physical and mental health. Playing fields are traditionally used by sports club members for organised matches but this project will open up the playing field to the whole community and encourage them to exercise on a regular basis.

A mile-long Green Hearts path has been marked out with quarter mile posts around the perimeter of the field so that participants can track the distance they have travelled and monitor their own improvement. The playing field is open each day from 8.00am - 5.00pm for participants to use the path. It is FREE to take part and all abilities are welcome. Participants can exercise at their own pace, at a time that suits them and no special equipment or clothing is required.

Taster sessions
To get the project started we are delivering three taster sessions for parents of pupils at Coppermill School. Sessions will run from 8.30 – 10.00am so that parents can join us any time after the school drop off. They will be led by our Green Hearts Activator Chris Hodge and Projects Manager Jo McKenzie. There is no need to pre-register, just join us on the day.

The dates are:
Monday 3rd July
Friday 14th July
Monday 17th July

If you can’t make these sessions, or would prefer to use the path at another time, then you can email jo.mckenzie@lpff.org.uk to register.

Once you have started exercising at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre don't forget to log your monthly Green Hearts miles here so that we can tell our funders about the impact of their donation.
