Douglas Eyre Sports Centre gets a makeover

Anonymous 30 May 2014

On Wednesday 14th May The Rt Hon the Earl Cadogan KBE DL, Chairman of the London Playing Fields Foundation officially opened the refurbished pavilion at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre. With funding from the Football Foundation, Sport England and BIFFA the pavilion at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre, Walthamstow has benefitted from repairs to the roof, improved changing rooms, showers and toilet facilities. The pavilion, which was built in 1989 and was suffering from wear and tear, is heavily used by local schools, clubs and the London FA for coach education courses. This investment will ensure the ground is attractive and accessible and continues to play a key role in helping to drive up local participation in sport at grassroots level. With the recently highlighted lack of investment in facilities by local authorities the LPFF is focused on maintaining its grounds to a high standard to ensure it continues its mission to provide a place to play sport forever.

LPFF Chief Executive Alex Welsh said: “If we are to have a lasting Olympic and Paralympic legacy then we need investment in facilities like this that are affordable, accessible and attractive to local communities. We are really grateful for the support of the Football Foundation, Sport England and BIFFA without whom this refurbishment would not be possible”
