Our Projects

Green Hearts

Welcome to Green Hearts, an exciting new project we deliver at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre, to improve the lives of the local community by providing access for informal walking, jogging and running. We want to give local people the opportunity to exercise on their own terms in a safe and quiet green space to improve their physical and mental health. Playing fields are traditionally used by sports club members but this project opens up the playing field to the whole community to encourage them to exercise on a regular basis.

A mile-long Green Hearts path has been marked out with quarter mile posts around the perimeter of the field so that participants can track the distance they travel and monitor their own improvement. The path can be used each day during daylight hours, it is FREE to take part and all abilities are welcome. Participants can exercise at their own pace, at a time that suits them and no special equipment or clothing is required.

Our Welcome sessions led by Green Hearts Activator John Harkin are a great way to help you get started and build your confidence to be active more regularly. The next session will take place on Sunday 18th November from 9.00-10.30am.

Registration forms can be downloaded from the right hand panel or collected from the centre reception and returned in the Green Hearts postbox by the entrance door. John will contact you and arrange to hand over our Welcome Pack and Green Hearts armband before you set off on your first mile. There is a Green Hearts information board inside the main gate which gives further details about the path and how to use it.
